These Old Programming Language becomes Popular Again

The most popular languages were finally eliminated from the Top 20 programming language of the April-2021 edition of the community index of Tiobe, Objective-C. Apple was replaced in the Swift programming language for iOS and macOS application development.

Although Swift has been released by Apple for seven years, Objective-C is one of Tiobe’s top 20 most popular languages worldwide. Goal-C was 3rd when Swift arrived in the Index in 2014.

Tiobe provides company customer software quality analyses and is based upon the share of total search by several popular search engines for each language.

Objective C has fallen slowly but surely on this list over the past year. Tiobe theorised that Objective-C was partly popular because of the slowness in adoption by Swift as mobile app developers to use languages for multiple platform application building.

In the meanwhile, swift has dropped from 11th place in April 2020 to 15th place on Tiobe’s index today.

The re-emerging Fortran in the index at 20th place, up from 34th place a year ago, is another notable change. In science computing Fortran, which originated at IBM in the 1950s, is still very popular. In 2002, Tiobe’s highest ranking was 10th.

“After more than ten years, this dinosaur is back in the top 20. Fortran has been the first language of commercial programming ever since its massive (scientific) numbers crunching requirements gained in popularity. Goodbye to Fortran, “Tiobe says.

Groovy is also back in top 20 this month, from the 48th position last April, to its current 17th position on the virtual Java machine (Java Virtual Machine). In January 2021, according to Tiobe, however, it was in 10th place.

C, Java, Python, C++, C#, Visual Basic, Javascript, Montage Language, PHP and SQL were the top 10 programming languages this month.

Classic Visual Basic, Delphi/Object Pascal, Ruby, Go, Swift, R, Groovy, Perl, MATLAB, and Fortran all were among the top 20.

The programming language rankings of RedMonk’s development analyst Q1 2021 led by JavaScript and Python, Java, PHP, C#, CSS, TypeScript, Ruby, and C.

What is the best language for programming? Is this web-based JavaScript? Or are Python now the roost controlled by data scientists? No, not that. The nearly 50-year old language C is the top language today, according to the Swiss software company Tiobe.

Programming Languages: This old favourite again completes the charts

It originated from Bell Labs and was founded by US computer scientist Dennis Ritchie almost 50 years ago, back in 1972. The Unix OS was also co-created.

C, the common language for all searches that Tiobe performed across search engines including Google, Bing, Yahoo, Wikipedia, Amazon, YouTube and Baidu, accounted for 16.34 percent of all. C was ahead of Java, Java, Python, C’s C++, and Microsoft’s C# in February 2021.

Rust, a language created by Mozilla’s Firefox maker, which promises to help correct some of the security issues with the memory C and C++ code, is now interested in engineers at Amazon, Microsoft and Google.

Nevertheless, according to Tiobe Chief Paul Jansen, C is a keystone of the top 10 languages and is relatively stable in terms of other languages.

“Some people say the IT industry is constantly changing. A new IT motto appears every day. But if we look closer into the top eight of the TIOBE index, for the past seven years, it seems unchanged “He said. He said.

He points out that this does not mean that the linguistic world of programming has not changed.

“It’s changed, of course. All programming languages of the top 8 release new releases frequently, with the exception of language C. For example, C#, which almost every year releases a language update. Or JavaScript, which changes so quickly that it is difficult for anyone to follow. C++ changes less frequently (once in three years), but its latest release includes the introduction of modules to change programming greatly; “He said. He said.

Jansen notes the top eight languages of programming are stable, but positions 9 and 10 often change.

Languages that have occupied such positions include SQL, Low-Standard Assembly, R, Java friendly Groovy, Google’s Go system programming language, Apple’s Swift application development language.

The only notable change in the Tiobe index in February 2021 is that Java has fallen first compared with the previous year. In comparison to last month, Java accounted for 11.29 percent of searches, and decreased 6.07 percent.
