A major outage has hit numerous major websites around the world.
As of this morning, Reddit, The Verge, Freetrade, Ebay, and Kickstarter are among those affected by the Outage of November 26, 2018. Search performance can be impacted, as is the Google Cloud Platform. Twitter is online, but the emoji platform is not.
Fastly has been down and the issue has been traced back to it. A centralised Edge cloud resides between data centres, reducing latency, defending against DDoS attacks, and handling increased traffic.
As of the moment, the Fastly website is offline.
10:44 UTC “A fix is already in place,” Fastly explained. Services such as Reddit are migrating away from Fastly’s network.
Fix applied: 10:57 UTC Origin load may go up as global services are restored. We’ve identified a service configuration that has resulted in disruptions across our POPs worldwide, and we’ve disabled it. Global network coming back online.
Users may experience a second outage as their application servers suddenly catch up.
Fastly has observed recovery of all services and has finished resolving this incident. Customers will have a period of higher origin loading and lower Cache Hit Ratio (CHR).
“Currently, we are investigating possible performance impacts from our CDN service.”
Amazon.com AWS: no outages in cloud or CloudFront CloudFlare is currently performing firewall maintenance, which could cause delays to GraphQL API Nodes Firewall Analytics, firewallEventsAdaptive, firewallEventsAdaptiveGroups, and firewallEventsAdaptiveByTimeGroups. It’s also believed not to be the cause of the outage.
